Consultation

Consultation for Clinicians

Every therapist gets stuck sometimes. Working with the full complexity of human beings on an ongoing basis makes this the rule rather than the exception. For clinical work to remain fresh, alive and ethical, a clinical consultant is essential for emerging and seasoned therapists alike.

As a psychoanalytic consultant, I can provide valuable support to therapists by offering an objective perspective on their clinical work and therapeutic relationships. Through case discussions and exploration of transference and countertransference dynamics, I help therapists gain deeper insights into their own emotional responses and unconscious patterns, enhancing their self-awareness and therapeutic effectiveness.

Additionally, as a consultant I can help guide therapists in navigating complex cases or ethical dilemmas, fostering professional growth and preventing burnout. This collaborative relationship ultimately enriches the therapeutic process for both the therapist and the patient, promoting a more profound understanding of the clinical work and emotional well-being.

I am a board-approved supervisor and have been supervising clinicians since 2004. I have served as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston’s Graduate School of Social Work and have supervised fellows and clinicians toward their full licensure in various settings, including the Menninger Clinic. I currently run a case consultation group for clinicians as the Clinic Director for Depth Counseling Texas, a group practice based in Chicago that specializes in psychodynamic psychotherapy. As the president of the Houston Psychoanalytic Society, I am connected with contemporary educational currents in the psychoanalytic field. Also, as an advanced candidate in adult psychoanalysis at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies in Houston, I currently engage in teaching candidates and fellows at the psychoanalytic institute. I have also served as a mentor for Austin Psychoanalytic Society.
