Trauma and PTSD
Trauma, whether from a single event or prolonged exposure to distressing experiences, can deeply affect an individual's emotional well-being and functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can manifest in various ways, including intrusive memories, avoidance behaviors, mood swings, and heightened arousal. I have extensive experience in working with attachment trauma, which is trauma that occurs in the context of an important attachment relationship.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy offers a unique approach to addressing trauma and PTSD by delving into the unconscious roots of distress, which can significantly impact the way that we manage triggers in our daily lives. Through a collaborative therapeutic relationship, we will work to explore underlying conflicts, unresolved emotions, and maladaptive patterns of thinking and behavior that may stem from traumatic events. We can also weave in somatic approaches such as trauma-informed yoga and EMDR to process distressing memories. Processing traumatic experiences, can help us gain insight into our reactions, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
My approach is tailored to each individual's unique needs and experiences. I prioritize creating a compassionate and nonjudgmental space where patients can explore their innermost thoughts and feelings at their own pace. My goal is to empower patients to reclaim their sense of agency, resilience, and capacity for healing in the aftermath of trauma.
