Trauma-Informed Yoga
Connect to your body
Yoga is a powerful way to compassionately attend to the experiences that our bodies contain. I began my yoga practice in 2000 in Houston, shortly before completing graduate school. As I discovered the transformative and healing impacts of yoga on my own life, I decided to deepen my studies and got certified as a yoga teacher in 2009 in Houston, TX.
While working in various therapeutic settings, I noticed that the body was dismissed or neglected in helping people heal, and I embarked on a path to integrate yogic practices into clinical work. I completed the Trauma-Sensitive Yoga teacher training through TCTSY, the first yoga-based empirically validated, clinical intervention for complex trauma or chronic, treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in 2016. Inspired by this program, I developed THRIVE, a trauma-informed yoga system which incorporates psychodynamic thinking and theory.
I have been incredibly fortunate to embark on a lifelong study of yoga postures, yoga philosophy and meditation with generous and skilled teachers, who have equipped me to train clinicians and yoga teachers across the country. I have taught group classes in various conferences and yoga studios in Houston and Pittsburgh and have traveled to deepen my yogic studies in India. My teaching is informed by the Forrest and Ashtanga yoga systems, and I currently maintain a regular yoga at Ashtanga Yoga Austin which sustains and nourishes me.
